Jenny’s Take

“Baby Jogger’s City Mini GT is one of my favorite all-terrain models for one child, and this dual model just expands on that great little platform. The City Mini GT Double is ideal for parents with two tots who aren’t planning to jog or do any intense hiking. It’s more than capable of handling gravel paths, dirt tracks, and so on, as long as you don’t try and use it at high speeds or over extremely uneven terrain where a true jogging stroller is essential. I should point out that despite the brand name, this Baby Jogger is not actually a jogging stroller! It’s a fairly standard single stroller which happens to have superior suspension and some excellent tires on it. I recommend it for any casual adventuring with a pair of little ones. It’s comfortable, maneuverable, and very convenient to use.”

Jenny’s Take

“The BOB Revolution PRO Duallie is my recommendation in this category for any parents who want to jog off-piste with two children. It’s the most rugged, capable dual stroller I’ve reviewed, and by far the best in the jogging category. Even if you’re not going to be jogging, this is still the best bet for hiking on rougher trails and especially bumpy terrain. That’s where the Revolution PRO’s superb suspension and handling really prove their worth! It’s also a great stroller regardless of where you use it. There’s lots of storage space, a nifty folding mechanism, and every convenience you could want. I know that this is pricey to say the least, but it’s well-worth it for the peace of mind it’ll give you when you take your little ones for adventures! Be aware that it’s quite bulky, though.”

Conclusion

So, which of these all-terrain dual strollers should you go ahead and buy?

The City Mini GT is the best bet if by “all-terrain” you mean the occasional walk on parklands, gravel paths, and so on. It’s very good on mixed and uneven ground, as long as you don’t go anywhere too extreme or go faster than a walk. You can’t jog with this one, though. It also doesn’t have the BOB’s storage space or impeccable suspension.

The BOB is the obvious choice if you’re planning to jog. It’s the only dual jogging stroller up for going off-piste, aside from the cheaper Revolution FLEX, and it’s simply a more rugged off-roader than the City Mini GT in every department. This is overkill if you’re not planning on jogging or doing challenging hikes, though. It’s also very expensive, so it’s not something to buy unless you know you’ll get your money’s worth from it. Our favorite pick overall for best all terrain double stroller has to be the Baby Jogger 2016 City Mini GT Double Stroller, thanks to its excellent suspension and affordable price.

Buying Guide

Here are a few tips for shopping for a good all-terrain double stroller:

Never Go Without Suspension Or Good Tires

Suspension and tires are your best friends when you leave the sidewalk behind. Good tires are essential for handling uneven terrain where plastic will just skitter around or jam. Always look for rubber tires with either pneumatic inner-tubes or no-flat foam cores. Hard plastic has no place off the pavement! Suspension is also key, in at least one set of wheels. Whenever you hit bumpy terrain, you want to be confident that your child is still having a comfortable ride. Invest in something with a good set of shocks to protect their growing spine!

Know What Terrain You Plan To Tackle

Make sure you know what “all-terrain” actually means to you! To some people, it means going for walks in parks on fairly well-kept dirt paths and neat lawns. To others, it means going for hikes in places where the paths might be extremely uneven and bumpy. In the first example, you could get by with a fairly standard stroller that’s upgraded with all-terrain tires and some basic suspension. In the second example, you’d need a jogging stroller with mountain bike shocks and serious tires.

Check The Specs

Before you buy any stroller or car seat, you should always check and double-check the specs. Make sure your new gear is rated to handle your child’s weight and height. Be sure that the handle will be a comfortable height. Whatever’s an important detail to you, be sure to do your research thoroughly before you buy so that you don’t end up dealing with any surprises.
