Side-by-side double strollers are the go-to these days for twins and even two kids of slightly different ages. They keep the whole family facing the same direction and make for much more of a shared experience than tandem strollers. Of course, the downside is that any stroller seating two kids side-by-side is going to take up a lot of space. The best side-by-side double strollers fit easily through standard doorways while giving little ones enough room to be comfortable. Which models are the best, though, and which are a pain to use?
In this guide, we’ll introduce you to all our favorite side-by-side double strollers, as chosen by Jenny L. Brown. Jenny’s our resident expert on all things parenting, and she’s been reviewing dozens of different models to weed out the bulky and irritating ones to find you a few high-quality recommendations.

Best Side-By-Side Double Stroller Reviews
Joovy Scooter X2 Double Stroller
“The Joovy X2 is my recommendation to parents who want a side-by-side double stroller that won’t break the bank. It’s extremely inexpensive but still covers all the basics for a high-quality stroller. If you don’t need any particular frills or special features, this is as much as you need to spend.
The Joovy is rated to handle up to 90 pounds in total, so it’s good for two kids up to 45 pounds each. That’s not quite as much as the BOB or the Bugaboo are prepared to carry, but still gives you a very reasonable working life from something that doesn’t cost more than $250!
It might not be the most sophisticated or feature-packed model on the market, but it has all the essentials I look for in a side-by-side double stroller. The seats and footrests are independently adjustable, and the sunshade offers complete protection. There’s plenty of storage, cupholders for everyone, and a simplified folding mechanism that’s more convenient than anything else for the price.
Why spend more? Well, if you’re planning to jog, you’ll need to invest quite a bit more to get the BOB below. The Joovy is definitely not a jogging model, and it’s not the best on rougher paths. The Bugaboo is also a more versatile choice for everyday use. The Joovy works best with two kids who are pretty much the same size and height. The Bugaboo can work with everything from twins to kids who are years apart.”
BOB Revolution Pro Duallie Jogging Stroller
“BOB’s Revolution Pro Duallie is a phenomenal jogging stroller that I recommend to any parents who want to get out and about on the trail with two kids. It’s built like a tank, with mountain bike suspension and big, all-terrain tires that can handle anything you throw at it while keeping kids safe. Plus, it’s simply a well-designed stroller for going around town.
There are a lot of things that set the Revolution Pro Duallie apart from your average double jogging stroller. For one thing, the folding mechanism is actually convenient to use! I can’t say that about the competition. It also fits through standard doorways with no issue–another sticking point for comparable models. It’s well-equipped throughout, and genuinely feels like it was designed by someone who knows what it’s like to take kids out for a jog.
This is obviously not something you need to bother with if you’re just planning on walking around town. If you don’t jog but do want to go on some hikes with the little ones, it could definitely be worth the investment. For sticking to gentle paths and pavement, the Joovy or Bugaboo are the better choices. They’re lighter, smaller, and all you really need.”
Bugaboo Donkey Complete Duo Stroller
“This ultra-premium Bugaboo is extremely expensive, but I think it would be remiss for me to not include it here. It’s quite simply the best double stroller I’ve ever reviewed, and it earns its keep for parents who want to have two kids of different ages next to each other on the go.
The vast majority of side-by-side strollers like the Joovy and BOB are designed with the idea that you’ll use them with twins or two kids who are relatively close in age. They don’t work with babies in a bassinet mode, and they don’t handle well if your kids are too far apart in weight or height.
The Bugaboo Donkey Duo is different in that it can be used right from birth. You can swap the seats for bassinet baskets, then switch back to seats when little ones grow. That’s true of either or both seats. So, there are actually several things you can do with this that you can’t do with traditional side-by-side models: carry two kids straight from birth, and carry an infant in bassinet mode alongside an older kid in a toddler seat. It’s by far the most versatile double on the market right now.
It’s also an incredibly well-made stroller. It’s not designed for jogging or especially rough terrain, but it handles bumps and uneven terrain like a champ. Everything’s sturdy and stable with impeccable build quality. Sure, you’ll pay more for this than anything else on the market, but it’s a joy to use and is also the only model to offer so much versatility in terms of configurations and adjustments.”
Conclusion
Which of these side-by-side double strollers is the best choice for you and your children?
The Joovy Scooter X2 is the obvious choice for folks on a budget. It’s not the fanciest thing on the market, but it seats two children comfortably next to each other without impeding your ability to get through doors. It handles well around town and folds relatively compact. Don’t expect to take this jogging or off-piste, though. The Bugaboo is also a much more versatile choice for growing families, since the Joovy doesn’t offer much room for modification or expansion.
The BOB Revolution Pro Duallie is our recommendation to active parents who want to take two kids jogging side-by-side. It’s extremely capable on any terrain, thanks to the wheelbase and suspension. We’re also big fans of it as a simple stroller, given the excellent storage space, sun shade, and folding mechanism. Plus, it’s one of the only dual jogging strollers that works well as a travel system! If you’re not going to jog, though, you don’t need to consider this one.
The Bugaboo is extremely pricey, but it’s the ideal side-by-side double stroller for parents who want to transport two kids of different ages next to each other. Of course, you can also use it as a double stroller with twins right out of the hospital. Still, it’s the Bugaboo’s ability to accommodate two children of different ages that really sets it apart. You’ll find that it’s a much better choice than traditional side-by-side models for families with kids who are a bit apart in size and weight. We recommend it to anyone who can afford it. All the models we’ve mentioned have their own advantages, but when it comes to the very best side by side double stroller we’d have to say it’s the Bugaboo Donkey Complete Duo Stroller thanks to the fact you can use it from birth.
